What Clients Say

In their own words

RH

Roslinda Hj. Bakar

Kota Kinabalu · June 2025

I attended the workshop with my sister after our mother retired and we realised we had absolutely no idea what documents she was supposed to have. The workbook was clear, the facilitator did not rush, and I came away knowing exactly what we were missing and where to start asking. Worth every ringgit.

The Household Records Index took what was a very stressful pile of documents — my father had worked for four different companies over 30 years — and turned it into something I could actually hand to a financial planner without embarrassment. The coordinator was patient and asked good questions to make sure nothing was left out.

I used the Long Paper Trail service because my husband had worked in Peninsular Malaysia, then Sabah, and the documents were spread across two states and thirty years. The coordinator kept a clear log throughout and the final summary was exactly what the financial planner said she needed to begin her work. Calm, unhurried, and very thorough.

I was not sure whether to hire a financial adviser straight away or to sort my records first. A colleague suggested Longspan and it was the right call. By the time I went to my adviser, everything was tabbed, numbered, and legible. She said it was one of the best-prepared sets of documents she had seen from a new client.

The workshop helped me understand what an EPF statement actually shows — I had been receiving them for 20 years and never really knew how to read the contribution history section properly. After the session I went home and found three statements I had never filed, which turned out to be important. Simple, useful session.

I came to Longspan after spending two frustrating weeks trying to sort my own records and getting nowhere. The coordinator took over the task without making me feel foolish about the state of things. The final index was clean, clear, and had a page listing everything still outstanding. That list alone was a relief to have in writing.

Case Summaries

How the process worked in practice

Case Summary · Long Paper Trail

Records spanning three employers and two states

Situation

A retired teacher had worked for a private school in Kuala Lumpur, a government-linked institution in Labuan, and a school in Kota Kinabalu — each with different contribution records, and correspondence stored across three different boxes at home.

What We Did

Over three months, we assembled a master register covering all three employment periods, maintained a log of requests sent to EPF and former HR contacts, and built a submission calendar for outstanding reply letters. No contact was made without the client's written direction.

Outcome

The client's financial planner received a 14-page chronological summary covering the full employment history. She described it as sufficient to begin her assessment without needing further information from the client at the first meeting.

Case Summary · Household Records Index

An inherited folder of mixed documents

Situation

Following the death of a parent, the eldest son received a box of mixed documents — EPF statements, a KWAP letter, insurance correspondence, and employment contracts — with no clear labelling or date order.

What We Did

In two appointments, we sorted the documents by category and date, built a printed index with 24 numbered items and 5 flagged gaps, and provided a naming convention for scanned copies. A gap note listed the typical sources for the missing items.

Outcome

The son was able to hand the completed folder to an estate administrator within a week of the second appointment. The administrator confirmed that the index saved approximately two hours of sorting at her end.
